In this NERI Research InBrief no. 84, NERI economist Chris Smart uses a dataset provided by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) to calculate a variety of regional indicators, looking first at gross value added (GVA) and how it is affected by the sectoral makeup of differnt NUTS regions.
We find that regional productivity is subject to significant disparities which have emerged since the latter half of the 2010s. These findings, as well as a more in-depth look at hourly productivity and regional employment shares, can help to provide context to our understanding of the Irish labour market and influence research going forward.
