The Nevin Economic Research Institute (NERI) is a Registered Charity since the 1 August 2013 with the Charity Number - 20082130.
Under the Charities Act 2009, every charity registered in the Republic of Ireland is required to submit an Annual Report to the Charities Regulator. When a charity files its Annual report for 2021, it will be required to declare if it is fully compliant with the Charities Governance Code.
You can comply with the Code by deciding:
What actions you will take to meet each core standard and what evidence you will keep to show that you have met this standard. To comply with the Code, you must complete the Compliance Record Form every year. This has been completed by the NERI for the years 2021-2023.
The 6 Principles of the Charities Governance Code are explained below with the NERI policy documents attached.
Principle 1 - Advance its charitable purpose
A charity needs to be clear about the purpose of the charity, have a Staff Charter, Programme of Work for the following year and an Accounting Policy & Procedure Document.

Principle 3 - Lead People
The most essential resource of any charity is its people. People should feel valued and have clarity around their own roles and the roles of others.

Principle 5 - Working effectively
Board meetings are important for charity trustees as they exercise their collective authority. It is also important for a good mix of skills and experience amongst trustees and that trustees receive an induction into a charity.
Have a recruitment and induction plan for future trustees, have regular meeting and record them accurately in the minutes, review the skills of trustees and decide on a term limit for trustees. Induction pack sent to all trustees.
