In this NERI Working Paper Series No. 76, Tom McDonnell and Paul Mac Flynn, NERI Co-directors and Michael Taft, SIPTU and Seán Ó Riain, Maynooth University sketch out a framework or ‘New Economic Model’ for inclusive and environmentally sustainable economic progress on the Island of Ireland in the 21st century.
Specifically, they articulate an economic model based on four interconnected ‘pillars’ or goals defined as (A) sustainable growth based on innovation and productivity gains, (B) more and better-quality jobs, (C) economic security for all and (D) a dynamic yet resilient economy. The purpose of the paper is to reflect on the type of policy suite that, in aggregate, could simultaneously achieve all four goals.
