Dr. Rory O'Farrell (TU Dublin), Ms. Susanne Rogers (Social Justice Ireland) and Mr. Michael Taft (SIPTU) gave their analysis of Budget 2025. Subsequently, a discussion will be open to the floor, where NERI Co-director, Dr. Tom McDonnell acted as the chairperson and presented questions to the three speakers.
Biography of Presenters:
Dr. Rory O’Farrell is an economist with over a decade of experience working for policy institutes, international organisations, and in academia. Rory currently lectures economics in TU Dublin. Up to August 2020 Rory worked at the OECD in Paris, having previously worked for NERI (Dublin) and the ETUI (Brussels). Since completing his PhD in economics at the EUI (Florence), Rory’s research can be found in journals such as Labour Economics and New Technology, Work and Employment. In addition Rory has contributed to the media, with articles appearing The Irish Times and the Irish Independent.
Ms. Susanne Rogers is a Research and Policy Analyst with Social Justice Ireland, an independent think tank and justice advocacy organisation that advances the lives of people and communities through providing independent social analysis and effective policy development to create a sustainable future for every member of society and for societies as a whole. Susanne leads on community development and social inclusion policy for Social Justice Ireland as well as researching and developing policy and strategies in the areas of income distribution, social inclusion, public participation, access to services.
Susanne has an honours degree in Theology and English literature (All Hallows,DCU), an Advanced Diploma in Money Advice Practice (University of Ulster) and a Masters in Social Justice and Public Policy (Waterford Institute of Technology).
Susanne sits on the Department of Rural and Community Development Public Participation Network National Advisory Group and the Central Bank of Ireland Consumer Advisory Group.
Mr. Michael Taft is a Research Officer with SIPTU and author of Notes on the Front, a political economy blog. He is also a member of the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council, and the Low Pay Commission.
