four day working week

Please find slides below from the NERI Seminar.  The presentation was made by Aidan Harper, Researcher, New Economics Foundation.

Abstract:

Moving towards a four-day week offers a new route out of the multiple crises we face today. Widening inequalities, a fragile and ecologically unsustainable global economy, the looming impact of automation, and the gendered division of unpaid labour remain issues which require bold solutions.  A reduction in the ‘normal’ working week from five days to four could help to address a range of these urgent, interlinked problems. These include overwork, unemployment, over-consumption, high carbon emissions, low well-being, entrenched inequalities, and the lack of time to live sustainably, to care for each other, and simply to enjoy life.
