Launch of NERI Winter, 2017 Quarterly Economic Observer
5 December 2017
This year’s Winter edition of the NERI Quarterly Economic Observer marks the 24th edition. The purpose of the Quarterly Economic Observer (QEO) is to provide regular, accessible and timely commentary on the Irish economy, North and South. The main policy focus for this edition of the QEO is Skills in Northern Ireland. We examine skills in the context of both workers and firms and assess whether Northern Ireland may be caught in a skills trap known as a Low Skills Equilibrium. Such a scenario would require a more coordinated approach to policy which addresses both the supply and demand for skills.
The launch will include a short presentation of the report's main findings followed by questions from the floor. Copies of the QEO will be available.
