Topic: Responses to Budget 2018

Speakers with biographies:

Marie Sherlock is an economist with SIPTU.  After graduating from Trinity College Dublin and then Cambridge University, she worked in Economic Consultancy before joining SIPTU’s research department. She has served as a member of the Government’s Labour Market Council and the Advisory Group on Tax and Social Welfare for the Minister of Social Protection. She was also a member of the CSO’s Economic Statistic Review Group in 2016. In 2015, she took a year out to head up the development of the Labour’s Party General Election manifesto. 

John FitzGerald is an Adjunct Professor in both TCD and UCD, having previously been a Research Professor in the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin. He is a member of the Central Bank of Ireland Commission and he is Chairman of the Irish government’s Climate Change Advisory Council.

Michelle Murphy is Research and Policy Analyst with Social Justice Ireland. Key areas of responsibility include researching and developing policy and strategies in the areas of rural development, sustainability, income distribution, taxation and education.  Michelle is also responsible for Social Justice Ireland’s European engagement (including the Europe 2020 process) and represents the organisation at various Departmental bilateral meetings.

Abstract: The three speakers will each make a brief presentation responding to aspects of Budget 2018. Subsequently, the discussion will be open to the floor.
