NERI Seminar Dublin: Fiscal Priorities for Long-Run Growth
18 November 2015
The Nevin Economic Research Institute (NERI) will hold a seminar on Wednesday November 18th 2015. The details are as follows:
Topic : Fiscal Priorities for Long-Run Growth
Speakers : Dr Tom McDonnell (NERI)
Date : 18 November 2015
Time : Tea and coffee from 15:50. The seminar will commence at 16:00
Long-run economic growth is the central concern to policymakers, as the extent of quality of life improvements in future years depends on the ability of the economy to grow sustainably in the long-run. More precisely, quality of life improvements depend on the ability of the economy to produce and diffuse new innovations and to find ways to use capital and labour more efficiently. There is great uncertainty about future growth rates and heated debate about the type of policies we should pursue. Drawing on a recent NERI working paper, "Cultivating Long-Run Economic Growth in the Republic of Ireland," this seminar aims to inform that debate and considers a non-exhaustive set of policy reforms designed to collectively increase the Irish economy’s long-run productive capacity.
